These are the brainstorming sketches for the second Major Project that we have been working on for the IB program. We will do 12 Major Projects over 2 years. The theme was landscape, and more precisely, what makes a landscape, what we really need in one and what we can do without. The “what we can do without” is perhaps the more challenging part of the project because while we know what we see and can replicate that , simplifying to get to the essential of what we want to convey requires a lot of thought. As part of our research to prepare for our own works, we began by investigating the life and works of two landscape artists, Peter Doig (Red House, discussed in an earlier post) and John Virtue. The next step was to come up with ideas, and start sketching. I’ve only done a couple of sketches so far, but I think I will use a ‘vegetation’ decor. Posted here are examples of what we’ve been doing in class. Stay tuned– Final Piece will be up soon!
